Actress Anushka Sharma detained at Mumbai Airport for carrying excess jewellery.
“She has claimed that the jewellery is not hers, and that she had borrowed it for the IIFA awards,” said a Customs officer.
It is common for actors to borrow jewellery in exchange for the brand’s promotion. They are, however, required to carry a certificate stating the jewels are not for trading purposes and will be brought back. Like Lamba, Sharma was not carrying the certificate, the officer said.
Anushka Sharma was carrying gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 35 lakh and watches worth Rs 10 lakh. “She said some 5-6 jewellers had given their jewels to her. One of them is Nutandas Jewellers,” the officer added.
