In Snatched, daughter Emily (Amy Schumer) and mom Linda (Goldie Hawn) go on vacation to Ecuador after Emily can't find anyone to take her newly ex-boyfriend's place on a nonrefundable trip. Unlike Emily and Linda, my mom and I travel together on purpose all the time, both domestically and internationally. Also unlike Emily and Linda, my mom and I have never been kidnapped on one of our trips. Regardless, it seemed like this movie was made for us, so we went to see it together.
Some background: My best friend and I refer to my mom, age "mom age," as Yolo Fran, because she's always going on adventures, even if they're just around our hometown of New York City with her dog Riley. I am 30 years old and the managing editor of Cosmopolitan.com. Spoilers ahead, obviously.
Alie: What were your expectations going into the movie?
Fran: Amy Schumer and the guy from Law and Order [Christopher Meloni] have been on the morning show circuit promoting it, so I was aware of it. I expected it to be a silly movie, especially with the two stars. I don't know Amy Schumer that well, I might have seen a special of hers once. But it was fun seeing Goldie Hawn because I haven't seen her in anything in a long, long time. I don't think she's done anything in a long time. I remember her from Laugh-In days, so I'm dating myself.
Alie: I don't know what that is.
Fran: You don't know what Laugh-In is? Ah, you have to look that up! It was a variety comedy show. I think that's where she became known from. [Editor's note: My mom texted me YouTube clips of Laugh-In the very next morning.]
